LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said cheap transport was a basic requirement of poor, while education and transport had their own separate significance.

‘Some people say that transport is not needed, but education is. Transport has its own cruciality. Do poor not need cheap transport? Should people not be provided with honorable transport facility? ‘ he asked while addressing a press breifing on Orange Line project in Lahore.

He said the government was giving equal importance to the development of all the sectors incuding transport, education, health and agriculture. Education was also being paid attention along transport. Billions of rupees had been given to students for their scholarships in Punjab.

Sharif said the government was implementing projects in different sectors on revolutionary basis. Lahore had become a new city in seven years.

‘The government is paying special attention to farmers’ need and has brought huge project for them,’ he said.

Nawaz Sharif said metro bus projects have successfully been completed in Islamabad and Lahore while work on the project has been started in Multan which will soon be completed.

He assured the metro bus projects will be launched in other cities as well in order to provide cheap and dignified transport to the people.

The prime minister said the government has introduced a new trend of saving the national resources in mega development projects.

He said Bhikki Power Plant near Sheikhupura will be completed at a cost of fifty five billion rupees, instead of earlier estimated ninety three billion rupees.

‘Various power projects like Bhasha Dam and Dasu Dam will generate nine thousand mega watts of electricity after completion,’ he said.

Nawaz Sharif said a coal power plant is also being setup at Sahiwal.

The Prime Minister said thirty six hundred MW electricity will be produced by LNG.
