ISLAMABAD: National Task Force for Human Rights (NTFHR) started its functioning formally in the country to improve fundamental rights of people at grass root level.
The first ever meeting of the committee, established on the directive of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, held here on Wednesday chaired by Federal Minister for Human Rights Kamran Michael.
The meeting members decided that committees for Human Rights would be constituted throughout the country at the provincial, district and sub-divisional level. Addressing the meeting the minister said that the Institutions and Organizations working for the promotion of Human Rights were doing well but it was need of the hour to further improve their capacity and working potential.
“The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights for all the citizens of the state irrespective of caste, relgion, colour and race”, he added. Minister stated that to achieve this Constitutional guarantee, it was necessary to strengthen the Institutions of the state. Kamran Michael also established a `Legal Aid Wing’ for the legal assistance of those who have no access for the redressal of their grievances. Moreover, the Federal Ministry for Human Rights has also established a help line for citizens. Federal minister, Kamran Michael said that members of the National Task Force should endeavor to redress the grievances of the citizens in the light of the government policy.
The Ministry is trying to ensure the protection and respect of the rights of the marginalized segments of the society including women and minorities at any cost. —APP
