KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to provide land of National Stadium in Karachi on rental basis for different celebration events like wedding and parties. PCB administration also summoned tenders to move fast on its decision, local media reported.
A protest was organised at the National Stadium Karachi against the tender procedures issued after disconnection of water connection to the internationally renowned cricket stadium over non-payment to revenue department of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).
The stadium administration complained that a 3-inch diameter water connection was choked after construction of fly-over on one acre land provided to the city government by the PCB. It should be mentioned here that the only water connection was suspended over non-payment of Rs4.41 million dues along with sewerage and conservancy charges.
Protestors also raised question over transparency of the tenders summoned for provision of stadium land for rental purposes. On the other hand, stadium administration provided its stance that tenders were opened in transparent manner on last Thursday by PCB team reached to Karachi to secure additional land and balancing of financial burden.
However, no legal scrutiny was made for delayed tender that resulted targeting PCB. According to report, PCB will get around Rs3.5 million additional annual earnings by the decision while questions are still circulating for PCB performance over delay in establishment of regional cricket academy.
