NADRA official on alleged embezzlement in Kuwait arrested

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested Adnan Akram, main accused of siphoning off National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) recoveries amounting to US $ 82,000 (around Rs.8.2 million) at its office in Pakistan’s Embassy, Kuwait.

The accused, arrested from Benazir Bhutto International Airport has been arrested upon his arrival from Kuwait. He is now in FIA Islamabad custody.

As per details, Pakistan’s embassy in Kuwait took action against an official of NADRA office in Pakistan’s embassy in Kuwait for embezzling millions of rupees under direction of  Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

According to Interior Ministry, the accused Adnan Akram was involved in misappropriation of Rs. 8.2 million from 2010 to 2012.   The accused disappeared after the matter revealed before the authorities.

Visa of the accused had been canceled and his passport was seized by the Embassy.

FIA registered a case against Adnan Akram and an FIA team was dispatched for his arrest.
