ISLAMABAD: The speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has deferred voting by one week on a resolution, seeking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers’ ouster from assemby.
Lawmakers from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Tuesday tabled a resolution in National Assembly seeking de-seating of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs.
However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided not to favour the resolution tabled by PTI’s political rivals.
The resolution was tabled in the house by MQM’s Salman Khan Baloch and JUI-F’s Naima Kishwar when the session begun with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
The resolution seeks disqualification of PTI lawmakers, including PTI Chairman Imran Khan, for not attending assembly proceedings for seven months during the party’s sit-in last year.
Under the rules, any MNA could be de-seated in case of his/her absence from lower house of the Parliament for 40 consecutive days. Opposition leader in the NA Khursheed Shah said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the government do not want to de-seat PTI members.
The matter of de-seating PTI members was raised after inquiry commission issued its report over alleged rigging allegations leveled against PML-N.
