NA approves extension in Army Act (Amendment) Ordinance 2015

ISLAMABAD: An extension in Pakistan Army Act (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 for 120 days has been approved in the National Assembly

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif tabled the resolution which later approved by majority in the Lower House on Monday (today).

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) opposed and strongly protest against the extension terming it ‘contrary to regulations’ and later MQM lawmakers walked out of the House.

Pakistan Army Act (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 had been approved by President Mamnoon Hussain on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that allowed judges of military courts will have discretion to decide whether the proceeding will be open or not.

The ordinance also stated that the judges, lawyers and witnesses will be given security and protection. The judge of the court will himself have the discretion to decide whether the proceeding of a particular case will be open or closed while the summary was initiated by the Ministry of Defence.
