MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday removed Narayanaswami Srinivasan as chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC) and has replaced him with BCCI President Shashank Manohar.
The BCCI was considering replacing Sirnivasan as the chairman of the international cricket body. Srinivasan became the first ICC chairman after the 2014 revamp of the world body, with a two-year term, but the prerogative of who the representative is, lies with the board.
‘A consensus among board members, in favour of new BCCI president Shashank Manohar taking over as ICC chief, is expected to be reached at their annual general meeting in Mumbai on Nov 9,’ said an official statement.
After the change of guard in the BCCI, the organisation is desperately looking to clean up its affairs and cricket reforms are on the top of their agenda, especially after the BCCI’s own tournament, IPL, was entangled with corruption and spot-fixing scams.
Former Indian cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and current India Team Director Ravi Shastri, who enjoy lucrative commentary stint, might also lose their contracts.
