N Korea faces strong criticism over hydrogen bomb test

North Korea announced on Wednesday it had successfully carried out its first hydrogen bomb test, a development that, if confirmed, would mark a stunning step forward in its nuclear development.

Chinese and South Korean officials both said there were early indications the tremor was man-made, with South Korea’s Met Agency saying it was ‘highly likely’ the earthquake was caused by nuclear testing.

A fourth nuclear test could bring North Korea a step closer to developing a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a long-range missile, and possibly bringing the US mainland within striking distance.

On the other hand, US vowed to respond appropriately to North Korea’s provocations after the reclusive nation claimed that it had carried out a hydrogen bomb test. “We will continue to protect and defend our allies in the region, including the Republic of Korea, and will respond appropriately to any and all North Korean provocations,” State Department Spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.

While UK declared North Korea’s test outrageous and said it is the violation of UN council’s resolutions.

Japan also showed concerns over the bombing test.
