Musharraf challenges special court’s verdict in high treason case

LAHORE: Challenging the special court’s death penalty, former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Musharraf filed a plea in the Lahore High Court here on Friday.

Azhar Siddiqui had filed the petition in the LHC on behalf of the former president.

The former president and army chief was not provided a chance to give his arguments, the petitioner said in the plea.

On Dec 17, a special court hearing the high treason case had awarded death sentence to former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf for suspending the Constitution on Nov 3, 2007.

A three-member bench comprising Lahore High Court’s Justice Shahid Karim, Peshawar High Court’s Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Sindh High Court’s Justice Nazar Akbar issued the verdict that was split 2-1 in the high treason case here.
