LAHORE: A school will be opened for transgenders in Multan, announces the Punjab education minister on Tuesday.
In a statement, Murad Raas said that a school for transgenders would be opened in Multan. He added that more such schools would also be opened in other cities of the province.
Raas was of the view that transgenders was a community that had been sidelined in the past.
“I have made the decision after a meeting with the representatives of the transgenders, the provincial minister said.
He said that formal education at schools would help them become more useful citizens.
Earlier, the first government-run school for transgenders was opened in February 2019 in Lodhran.
Sources said that over 20 students were receiving education at the school.
