MQM’s founding member Saleem Shehzad arrested at Karachi airport

KARACHI: Saleem Shehzad, a founding member of Muttahida Quami Movement now MQM-London, has been detained by police on his arrival from Dubai at the Karachi airport on Monday.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar had arrested Saleem Shehzad, Karachi Police Chief Mushtaq Mahar confirmed.

The SSP Malir said that Shehzad has been arrested in connection with Dr Asim’s case. He added that several cases were registered against the accused at various police stations in the Central and East districts.

Shehzad had returned home after ending his self-imposed exile in the UK.

Shehzad traveling on a British passport had reached Karachi from Dubai at 10:30 am.

Speaking to a local television channel at the airport, Shehzad said that he was undergoing a chemotherapy since he was a cancer patient. He said that he had no regret over parting ways with some of the old friends.

“I have voluntarily returned home and will prove my innocence in court.” he further said.

Media reports claimed that Shehzad is likely to join the MQM-P.
