MQM, PPP responsible for Karachi miseries: Sirajul Haq

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq has said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Pakistan Peoples Party were responsible for problems in Karachi.

While addressing a press conference at Mansoora, JI chief demanded 300 billion rupees package for Karachi. He said that 8000 people were appointed on political bases in Karachi education department.

Sirajul Haq advised Sindh government to improve its governance. He said that dacoit hold rule in interior Sindh. He said that police serving VIPs despite common people in Sindh.

JI Ameer said that MQM did nothing except land grabbing. He said that resolution of Karachi issue was in national interest. He continued that no one was ready to take liability of problems in Karachi. Sirajul Haq said that institutions in Karachi was trapped by corrupt people.

Senator Sirajul Haq said that the PPP and the MQM were jointly responsible for the problems being faced by Karachi and Sind province at present.  He was addressing a press conference at Mansoora after a three day visit to Karachi in the wake of large scale deaths there due to intense heat.

The JI chief said that the nation wanted thorough probe into the allegations leveled against the MQM and added that the matter should not be wound up as had been done in the past.  He said that the allegations against the MQM were not new and the Editor of weekly Takbeer, Syed Salahud Din had gathered the entire evidence against the MQM and he was gunned down for that.

Sirajul Haq urged the Prime Minister to hold a cabinet meeting in Karachi on the issue of the mega city and added that all decisions should be taken in consultation with all political parties, above party politics. He especially stressed that all political appointments made in different departments and agencies in Karachi must be scrapped and fresh recruitment be made strictly on merit.

He also called for preparing a 50 years plan for Karachi and a Rs. 300 billion special package for the city.

The JI chief said that Karachi, once the city of lights, had been turned into a den of criminals and target killers extortionists and land grabbers had taken refuge in political parties.

He said that the recent deaths in Karachi were primarily due to energy crisis which also caused water shortage. He said that for the last ten years, the Sind Health Minister had been from the MQM but the health infrastructure in the province was totally ruined and could not even attend to three thousand people affected by heat stroke. He said that in the interior Sindh, the law and order was deplorable and  Minsiter had been from the mQM but  the people took refuge indoors at sun set while the lawbreakers were roaming all around. The police was on the security of the VIPs . He said it was high time to attend to the law and order in Sindh failing which the people could rise in revolt.
