KARACHI: The cellular networks will remain blocked in Karachi as a security measure during Youm-e-Ali R.A.
Government of Sindh has decided to block all cellular networks on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali. The services would remain suspended from 09:00 PM till 09:00 PM.
Earlier, Sindh home ministry has banned pillion riding for two days in three major cities of the province including Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur citing security concerns on Youm-e-Ali R.A., the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali Radi Allahu Anhu.
Sindh government had imposed ban on pillion riding under Section 144 being effective from July 8 till July 9 in order to void terrorism threats on Youm-e-Ali R.A.
Children, women, senior citizens, journalists and law enforcers were exempted from the pillion riding ban as per notification released by the provincial home ministry.
Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar had chaired high-level meeting organised for reviewing security arrangements of Youm-e-Ali R.A. The meeting was attended by Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Sindh and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) here on Monday.
Rangers Sindh spokesperson said that a high-level meeting held in Rangers Headquarters (HQ) to review security measures for Youm-e-Ali R.A, his martyrdom day coming on Ramadan 21.
The high-ups envisaged joint strategy in accordance to law and order situation to void terrorism risks via effective procedures. According to spokesperson, law enforcement agencies including Rangers and Police have been alerted citing the upcoming religious event. Moreover, Rangers and Police started snap checking on different spots in all bigger cities.
The participants agreed for air monitoring via helicopter of central processions on the day while all sensitive areas would be sealed and snipers would be deployed on higher buildings.
