LAHORE: As many as 180 MMA candidates of the National Assembly and 413 candidates of the four provincial assemblies would contest the general elections on the symbol of Book, while the decision of the candidates on the former FATA seats would be taken on June 25, Secretary General, MMA , said after the MMA Supreme Council meeting in Islamabad on Sunday.
He further said that more than seven per cent women candidates would contest the NA and PA seats on the MMA ticket in the direct election and a country wide campaign would be launched to mobilize the women to exercise their vote.
Meanwhile, while speaking at corner meetings in the Punjab capital, Liaqat Baloch said that the MMA would adopt the policy of austerity and self reliance in order to free the country from the clutches of the IMF and the World Bank. He said that the past rulers had burdened the masses with heavy direct and indirect taxes making their lives miserable and causing price hike. He said the outgoing government had secured record amount of loans and spent on unproductive projects while the country had to pay billions as interest on these loans.
He said that the common man remained deprived of the basic necessities of life while the rulers continued building personal empires and increasing their bank balances as was evident from their assets lists made public now.
Liaqat Baloch said that nature had blessed Pakistan with unlimited resources of man and material which if properly utilized could yield miraculous results under an honest and patriotic leadership. He pointed out that none of the MMA leaders had been involved in corruption.
He was confident that the masses would learn from their past experience and vote for the honest and dedicated leadership of the MMA.
