LAHORE: Eight out of at least 15 bodies of the Pakistani migrants have been returned who lost their lives as the boat in which they were trying to reach Greece had overturned on Sunday near Turkey.

The bodies were received by Pakistani authorities at Lahore airport through PIA 74. The dead belonged to Gujarat, Jhang, Mandi Bahauddin and Kharian. The overseas commission said the received bodies had been handed over to the heirs and two more bodies were on the way which would soon reach Pakistan.

According to international media seventeen migrants attempting to reach Greece by boat from Turkey have drowned after their boat sank off Turkey. The victims included five women and five children.

Some 300,000 migrants and refugees have arrived in Greece so far this year, most of them moving on to try to reach other EU countries.

Those who drowned on Sunday were trapped in the boat’s cabin as it sank, Turkey’s Dogan news agency reported.
