GWADAR: Over-16-hour torrential rains have paralysed normal life in Gwadar, turning streets into ponds, badly disrupting electricity system.
Roads are flooded and the water has entered the houses and shops, causing problems for citizens. Several houses have collapsed, forcing citizens to relocate.
Due to the lack of an effective drainage system, water has accumulated on the roads and rainwater has entered the houses in Tobagh, Sheikh Umar, Sohrabi Ward, Malaband Thana Ward, Shambe Smail areas of Gwadar.
Rainwater has also entered shops in Jannat Bazaar and Bilal Masjid Airport Road.
According to UC chairman of Sarabandan, many boats have collided and broken due to strong winds.
Chief of ‘Haq Do Tehreek’s’ newly elected MPA Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch has said, in a statement on social media, that the entire Gwadar city has been submerged in the torrential rain. The people of Gwadar are suffering the punishment of corruption and commission-grabbing, he added.
He has demanded that emergency should be imposed in Gwadar immediately.
Senator Kauda Babar said the entire Gwadar city is submerged. The local district administration is working on self-help basis. The NDMA and PDMA should come forward to help citizens, he added.
He said that fishermen’s boats broke down due to heavy rain. The Balochistan government should declare Gwadar as calamity-hit.
