ISLAMABAD,(APP): Experts are of the view that use of low quality sunglasses can cause visual distortion,number of people buy these sunglasses due to cheap rates in Federal Capital and Rawalpindi.
Many customers while choosing sunglasses prefer style, colour and brand name to quality of glasses while the economical rate is also a matter of attraction.
The vendors selling substandard sunglasses in Super Market (F-6), Jinnah Super (F-7), Ayub Market (F-8), F-10, F-11, G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-11, H-9 Sunday Bazaar, I-8, I-9, I-10 Markaz, traffic signals and other areas offer a wide range of sunglasses that attract a number of customers because of cheap prices.
Amaan Ullah, a student said, “I spent Rs 100 to get sunglasses from a roadside vendor. After using the glasses for a couple of days, I started feeling drowsiness and my vision got blurred and water started pouring out of my eyes.”
The vendor Khalid Hassan claimed they were selling high quality imported sunglasses that do not harm eyesight of users.
“I brought it from various cities in a bulk and I know these glasses are not harmful to eyes, but these are comperatively much cheaper than those sold at well reputed shopping malls and shops.”
Dr.Zeba Mateen, an eye specialist at Shifa Hospital when asked to comment on the situation said, a qualified Ultra Violet (UV) filtering sunglasses require good transparency of vision that do not affect the visual material while low quality material glasses result in visual distortion, such as headaches, dizziness, blurred vision and other symptoms.
All these symptoms ultimately result in sight impairment temporarily and in some cases on permanent basis, therefore she advised not to use substandard or inexpensive sunglasses for oneselef’s own welfare and wellbeing.
