KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Secretary General Liaquat Balouch has said that the local government elections in Karachi have their own significance which is much more magnificent than any other part of the country.

Addressing a party convention in Gulshan-e-Hadid area, the JI leader highlighted that Karachi has been deprived of peace and development for a long time, while the Muttahida Qaumi Movment (MQM) and Pakistan People Party (PPP) were enjoying the powers.

He said that the Gulshan-e-Hadid and adjoining areas have been deprived of necessary facilities and held responsible the ruling regime for the miseries of people.

The JI leader was of the view that political stability and national development is essential for the country to sustain and he said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gawadar Deep Seaport should not be made controversial so as to achieve the goal of political stability as well as development in the country.

He said that the international powers have been hatching conspiracies to fail the CPEC. He also appealed all political forces to support the project and foil the conspiracies of international powers.

Talking about the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Liaquat Balouch stated that the PSM should not be privatized as this privatization, according to him, would be contrary to the national interests. He also demanded of the government to release the salaries of PSM staffers that have been halted for four months.
