LG polls results: PML-N leads in Punjab, Sindh votes PPP

Unofficial results of Local Government (LG) election in 20 districts of Sindh and Punjab provinces showed that ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led polls in Punjab while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) visibly won across Sindh province.

Initial results showed that PML-N managed to grab major victory in the LG election in Punjab province after holding grip on 199 seats followed by independent candidates who won 122 seats. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates won only 38 seats in the election. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) won 4, 3 and 1 seats respectively.

In Sindh, PPP won 187 out of 1070 seats followed by independent candidates who won 45 seats. Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) grabbed victory on six seat. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) won 3, 2 and 1 seats respectively.

It is noteworthy to mention here that coalition partners in federal government, PPP and PML-N, have visibly defeated each other in their stronghold provinces, Sindh and Punjab respectively, during the first phase of Local Government (LG) election.
