KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure deployment of Rangers personnel in and outside the polling both on the Local Government (LG) election day.
Speaking at the JI Karachi’s committee for electoral policy devising, he said that the elections would be of no use, if the Rangers or army personnel were not deployed properly. He expressed his distrust in police department, citing the bloody polling at Khairpur district in the first phase of polling.
He also criticized the government and the election commission and said both were playing the role of spectators over the grave violations of the code of conduct, devised for the upcoming LG polls. He added that the criminal silence of both the ECP and the government and their bias are quite unacceptable.
He also charged the government for launching baseless FIRs against JI candidates and activists. Highlighting the usage of K-Electric’s vehicles and staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for the campaign of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he urged the concern authorities to take proper action. Naeem said that the time of status co parties have come to an end and vowed that the JI would change the fate of Karachi and would serve the citizens with honesty.
