LG polls a chance of durable peace and progress in Karachi: Siraj

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Amir Senator Siraj-ul-Haq has said that Karachities have the chance to bring a durable peace, progress and opportunities in the shape of upcoming local government (LG) polls.

Addressing a press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters on Saturday, the JI supremo said residence of Karachi can ensure a bright future with the help of ballet, if they realize its power.

He announced that the JI has been contesting on 95 percent seats of union councils in Karachi. That also included seat adjustments with other like minded political parties, he added.

The JI chief said that the JI would get the city free of usurping rights culture. He vowed that the party would restore the rights of the city and would eliminate the grievances of the city.

Comparing the situation in the Sindh and KP province, the senator said that the Sindh government has ripped off those rights from the municipal institutions, which were bestowed during the marshal law times. On the other hand, he added that the KP government has empower the institutions with a lot of financial and administrative powers.

He expressed his concern over the Sindh govt’s attitude as even the chairman of the water board is the provincial minister for local administration.

The JI leader praised the Karachi operation and said that it has produced positive results and Karachities in general and traders community in particular took a sigh of relief and the tribute goes to the rangers led operation.

He was of the view that people of Karachi would support each and every step that would bolster peace in the city. Haq said that even children in Karachi knows the role of JI.

Talking about the priorities of the JI, he said that the JI would be focusing on water crises in the city as top priority, besides the issues of transportation, education and health, if provide with a chance to serve the city while being in the power.

He vowed that the JI would end the class based system and sense of deprivation among masses.

The JI leader also criticized the role of governor house in appointment of the Dow University of Health Sciences’ vice chancellor and chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi.

He also raised the issue of Hyderabad where people are being threatened and criticized those responsible.

He categorically said that the name of candidate for the mayor would be announced at a suitable time and occasion.
