ISLAMABAD: Preparations have been concluded for holding Local Bodies’ election in cantonment areas across all province of Pakistan except Balochistan including major cities Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
Pakistan military troops would be deployment for offering security duties across the polling stations as the decision was taken four days ago. The military troops were given special magistrate-level authorities that allows for six-month-long or more detention at the spot against convicts.
In Rawalpindi and Chaklala areas, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) made all arrangements for expected 450,676 registered voters around 20 wards to elect local leadership amongst 216 candidates. Polling officers were provided magistrate-level authorities while three-month-long imprisonment has been decided over violation of election regulations by the officials.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) including Peshawar, election camps were prohibited to be established near polling stations citing security concerns during the upcoming election. 43 candidates will be contested for five wards of the Cantt cantonment board in Peshawar. Electoral contest would be started amongst 153 candidates across 31 wards of the KP cantonment boards as 282 polling booths were established in 117 polling stations.
ECP said that the polling process would be continued from 8am till 5pm tomorrow and Returning Officers (ROs) have received 31,000 ballot papers.
