PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released Rs3 billion to all earthquake-affected districts of the province, said Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information Mushtaq Ghani.
He said in a statement issued in Peshawar special counters of National Bank of Pakistan had been established in 12 quake-affected districts which will pay compensation amount to the victims.
The massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake had shaken parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Victims still wait to be rescued as temperatures drop in the mountainous areas and the region’s overall death toll from the temblor exceed 380.
The earthquake triggered landslides and stampedes as it toppled buildings and severed communication lines. In the town of Chitral, one of the closest to the quake’s epicentre, people wait for government’s help having no resources of their own to fend for themselves.
