LAHORE: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the situation in the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa could not withstand politics of protests and shutter down and the issues arising in the local bodies elections should be resolved through dialogue. He was addressing a function organized by the Al-Khidmat Foundation at Al-Markaz, Peshawar. On the occasion, Ramadhan packages were distributed among more than three thousand deserving people.
Sirajul Haq said that the Khyber P. had faced numerous natural calamities besides terrorism and was already lagging behind economically. He said there had been mismanagement in the local bodies polls but the remedy did not lie in protests and road side demonstrations.
He said that re-polling could be held in all the constituencies and areas where there were complaints from any party, and the officials responsible for the irregularities and mismanagement should be proceeded against. However, he said there was no justification in scrapping the elections for 978 district and town wards only on the basis of complaints from 85 polling stations.
Sirajul Haq said that corruption was the main reason of poverty in the country and added that the JI alone could root out corruption from the society because it had honest and competent leadership at all levels.
The JI chief said that the JI was not against NGOs but the NGOs could not be allowed to ridicule Islamic culture and traditions. He said that some NGOs were busy in propaganda against madrissahs and mosques. On the other hand, there were organizations like the International Islamic Charitable Organization which were committed to eradicating poverty and illiteracy from the society. Similarly, the Al-Khidmat Foundation was also rendering commendable services in the province.
Commenting on the federal budget, he said that it protected the interests of the rich and there was nothing in it for the poor and the oppressed.
