ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will achieve target of planting one billion trees across the province by 2018.
Addressing a ceremony here on Thursday, Imran Khan said Pakistan was among top 10 countries prone to threat of global warming. He said in order to protect Pakistan from global warming and negative effects of climatic changes, KP government has retrieved 2,000 acre forestland from illegal occupation of timber mafia.
He said before the PTI assumed power in KP, large scale deforestation had taken place in the province but the provincial government was now taking mitigation steps in the face of climate change threats
Imran said KP government has planned four new national parks to provide eco-tourism, green jobs and preserve natural beauty under the Asia Protected Area Partnership (APAP) partnership. Becoming first province of an Asian country to be part of Asia Protected Area Partnership (APAP) is yet another achievement of KP government, he added.
Asia Protected Area Partnership was established in 2104 when senior government officials from 12 Asian countries and International Union for conservation of Nature (IUCN) agree to establish a new trans-boundary Asian partnership on protected areas.
