KMC administrator kicks off anti-dengue program in Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Thursday started a comprehensive program for control on spread of dengue virus. Under the program municipal staff would sprinkle insecticides in all major and subsidiary drains of the city to control the disease.

Administrator KMC Sajjad Hussain Abbasi on Thursday formally kicked off the campaign with the sprinkling of insecticides in the Glass Tower Nullah in Clifton.

KMC is making all efforts to control the spread of dengue virus and the anti mosquito drive being carried out all over the city in this connection. A fleet of 60 spray vehicles had been deputed to perform spray near Imam Barghas and on the routes of Muharram processions from 8th to 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram.

He said the sprinkling of insecticides in city drains would continue for a long period.

Meanwhile, the senior director of municipal services in his briefing to administrator said that the municipal staff was carrying out fumigation campaign in the city on regular basis, whereas, cleaning and de-silting of drains and sprinkling of insecticides was also being done alongside to save the citizens from mosquitoes and other germs.

He said under the program insecticides being sprinkled in the Gujjar nullah, Sher Shah nullah, Orangi nullah, Hub River Road nullah, Pitcher nullah, Kalri nullah, Soldier Bazar nullah, Frere nullah, Manzoor Colony nullah, Mehmoodabad nullah, Zehri House nullah, Korangi nullah, Chakor nullah, Songal nullah, Golden Town nullah and other nullahs.
