Sindh Governor Imran Ismail decides to resign
KARACHI: Strongly rejecting the Sindh government’s proposal, Governor Imran Ismail said K-Electric (KE) would not be permitted to collect taxes of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) taxes at any cost.
The governor stated this after attending the Isra University’s 6th convocation while speaking to the media here.
Ismail said he would strongly opposed the provincial government’s plan to collect the KMC’s fire and conservancy tax through K-Electric every month.
Earlier, KMC Commissioner Afzal Zaidi had said that K-Electric was agreed to collect tax for the Karachi Municipal Corporation.
The commissioner had written a letter to the Sindh energy department for the collection of taxes from citizens by K-Electric. He asked the Sindh government, in the letter, to request Centre for a permission from Nepra.
He said that the KMC had been collecting the municipal utility tax since 2008. As per the Local Government Act, the KMC can collect tax through a third party, the letter added.
