Karachi: After 25 years, the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) has launched in the city here on Thursday.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed inaugurated the KCR.

Due to non completion of the track, the rail will operate between City station and Pipri covering 46 kilometers.

The KCR will halt at only 13 of the total 21 stations due lack of facilities.

Pakistan Railways has fixed fare at Rs50 for single journey. The train will run at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour.

The officials of the Pakistan Railways said that the original plan of the KCR had been altered as the 14-kilometer track between City station and Orangi Town could not be cleared in time.

Experts have not okayed the 14-KM track due to the issue of level crossings, they added.
