Kashmir settlement vital for peace in South Asia

ISLAMABAD, April 28 (APP): Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that Kashmir dispute is the core issue between Pakistan and India and permanent peace and stability in the South Asian region is impossible without settling it on priority basis.

The Hurriyet forum at a meeting of its Executive Council, GeneralCouncil and Working Committee held in Srinagar and presided over by Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, reviewed the prevailing human rights situation and the organisational matters, Kashmir Media Service reported.

The meeting termed the meeting between the foreign Secretaries of Pakistan and India in New Delhi as an important step towards ending an impasse between the two countries. It called for inclusion of the Kashmiris in the dialogue process to bring about a just and durable settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

The participants also strongly denounced the authorities for placing the Chairman of the Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest and imposing restrictions to prevent people from attending the funeral prayers in absentia of prominent liberation leader, Amanullah Khan. They said that the action had exposed India and its puppet rulers in the territory before the world.
