Karachi traders divided over anti-withholding tax strike

KARACHI: As Pakistan’s traders go on a countrywide strike on Saturday, their counterparts in Karachi are divided into two groups.

As per details, Anjuman-e-Tajiran Karachi had announced the closure of shops today while Karachi Tajir Ittehad has announced to observe a complete shutter down on August 5 terming today’s strike as a government conspiracy.

All Karachi Tajir Ittehad chairman Ateeq Mir claimed that government wanst to divide the traders through its fake traders’ representatives.

Mir maintained that today’s strike has nothing to do with Karachi Tajir Ittehad adding that the associati will go on strike on August 5 agains the imposition of 0.3 percent withholding tax on banking transactions.

The KTI chairman was of the view that traders will not pa any sort of withholding tax and if the government does not back down upon the newly imposed tax, the traders will not pay any kind of tax hinting that they may run a ‘Civil Disobedience’ movement.

Traders across Pakistan are observing a complete shutter down today.
