KARACHI: At least 13 people were killed while several others injured when a hillside collapsed on them in mega-city Karachi.
The incident happened in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Tuesday. Rescue operation is still underway.
All the deceased are member of a single family that belongs to south Punjab area of Rahim Yar Khan. The deceased include six children, two women and three men.
Their contractor allowed them this place to live. Only some days ago, they constructed three shanties which were decimated by heavy rocks.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui directed the concerned personnel to rush to the accident site along with the required machinery so that the rescue operation could be revved up.
Local residents and personnel of paramilitary force also are busy in excavation work along with the KMC personnel with the help of heavy machinery.
According to local residents, two to three people are still trapped under tonnes of rock and rubble.
All bodies have been shifted to Jinnah Hospital morgue.
