Karachi: Four killed in rain-related incidents

KARACHI: At least four persons were killed including many others injured in rain-related incidents in Karachi here on Saturday.

Slippery roads resulted in accidents with two people killed in Nazimabad. Another man was electrocuted in Korangi area, officials and rescue sources said.

According to Met department, more rainfall is expected in next 24 hours adding that PAF Base Masroor has so far received most rainfall i.e. 52mm, PAF Base Faisal 48mm, Airport and adjoining areas received 29.1, Gulistan e Jauhar 29 mm, followed by North Nazimabad 45 mm and Landhi 15.5 mm.

The rainy spell will continue until Sunday and the city is likely to receive more showers.

Power outages

As many as 20 K-Electric feeders had tripped as soon as the city received rain.

In a tweet on their official page, K-Electric later claimed that most of these feeders had been brought back online and that “KE teams continue to work non-stop to ensure complete normalisation across the city”.

However, residents from parts of Nazimabad, Gulistan-i-Johar, DHA Phase I, Phase II extension and Phase IV, Site, Garden West, Lyari, Malir and Baldia Town said Saturday afternoon that electricity had yet to be restored in their regions.

Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that the rainfall in Karachi was extraordinary, directing officials to use all resources to clear the water which has accumulated on roads.

Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah said the situation in the city following the rain was not satisfactory adding that Waseem Akhtar was in the field as well.
