Karachi: Karachi’s two busy shopping hubs Zainab Market and Gull Plaza have been sealed for not observing government’s standard operating procedures SOPs here on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner Asma Batool said that the markets had been sealed for not using sanitisers, gloves and face masks.
On the third day of easing lockdown restrictions, visitors and shopkeepers were seen violating the SOPs set by the government in almost all the city markets.
Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani said that three shops – Lime Light, Shoe Plannet and Stylo – were sealed on Tariq Road while four markets were sealed on the Abdullah Haroon road for not maintaining social distancing and SOPs.
The commissioner said that SOPs were not being followed in the city markets despite warnings.
On Tuesday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had warned of tightening the lockdown measures again in case public and shopkeepers continue to violateb the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The chief minister issued this warning in
a video message here.
The chief minister said that he had received reports that neither traders nor public are following the government’s SOPs.
Shah said that he would withdraw the relaxation given for reopening of shops in case the SOPs are not followed.
He said that public was not understanding the severity of the virus pandemic.
He said that our hospitals could not bear the pressure of new cases.
