K-Electric consumers worry over over-billing

KARACHI: Adviser to Federal Ombudsman Muhammad Yameen Wednesday while deciding complaints of the residents of Shah Faisal and Korangi areas remarked that people were worried about overbilling from K-Electric.

The Ombudsman’s adviser, hearing the applications at Deputy Commissioner Malir’s Camp Office, expressed that people are worried about overbilling so they are contacting the Federal Ombudsman for getting free and quick justice, according to a handout issued here.

Muhammad Yameen said that on the directives of the Ombudsman applications are being continuously heard at the district level in order to provide justice at people’s doorsteps.

He said that this is a single and unique authority of the country where people get free and quick justice without paying any fee or acquiring the services of an advocate.

A power user, Muhammad Sarfaraz Khan, told the Federal Ombudsman court  that he suffered paralysis attack after receiving excessive amount’s bill and its amount was continuously multiplying.

After viewing the bill, Ombudsman court provided quick justice by deducting the billed amount.

On the application of another resident Syed Mubashir Hussain, K-Electric’s representative said his billed amount is already deducted and now there is no capacity to further decrease it.

The Ombudsman’s adviser told the applicant that in this situation bill’s installments may be made and at last installments were made for that bill.

When another resident Shaikh Sajid Mehmood complained of overbilling, K-Electric’s Coordinator presented a video as a proof of power theft upon which “power user was sorry and astonished”.

Hearing the applications of Muhammad Ashraf, Shafi Muhammad, Abdul Wahab, Muhammad Nazir, Muhammad Siraj Khan, Nisar Ahmed Khan and others, the advisor eradicated overbilling upon which power users expressed their pleasure.

General Manager of K-Electric Maroof Solangi and PRO Regional Office of Federal Ombudsman Behleem Builqees Jan were also present.
