#JusticeforZainab: Pakistan mourns brutal murder of eight-year-old girl after rape

KASUR: Pakistani society has plunged into a shock after a brutal incident surfaced in which an eight year old girl was first abducted and raped for about five days and later strangled to death here.       

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah took suo moto notice of the brutal rape and killing, seeking a detailed report from the District and Sessions, Kasur.

Zainab, whose parents were in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, had gone missing while going to take tuition class near her home on Jan 5.

The eight-year-old’s uncle Muhammad Adnan had registered an FIR at the Sadar police station. Police had failed to trace the missing girl until Tuesday night when Zainab’s body was spotted at a garbage heap by passersby.

The postmortem report suggests that the girl was raped multiple times.

Later, relatives and neighbours of Zainab as well as community stormed the District Commissioner office while the police opened fire to disperse them, killing two of the protesters and injuring several others.

The killing of protesters had led to eruption of widespread protests in the city.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers for Zainab were offered, which was attended by a large number of people.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri led the funeral prayers of the girl.

Reports say that this is the 12th incident in which victim is raped and thrown into garbage heap in the limits of Sadar police station.
