Judicial Commission to start probe alleged election rigging today

ISLAMABAD: Thorough probe in alleged rigging in last general election will be started from Thursday (today)  by the recently formed Judicial Commission.

The three member commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nasirul Mulk comprises Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan. Hamid Ali has been appointed as the commission’s secretary.

The commission had issued a  notification in its first meeting in which  April 15 deadline was set to all those who wanted to submit proof on rigging of the general eletion 2013.

The commission has also sought recommendations from all political parties, which took part in General Election 2013.

Many political parties and people in person have submitted the evidences, record and pleas before the JC.

As many as  26 political parties including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), , Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National Party (ANP), PML-Q and others have  presented proof to the commission on the last date.

The commission will present its report on rigging allegations within 45 days.

The PTI has declared the formation of the commission a milestone to achieve real democracy in Pakistan as the party led by its chief Imran Khan has long been protesting against what it termed widespread rigging in the 2013 polls.
