ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said it was unfortunate that the nation was entering the year 2017 with the Himalayas of corruption and a leadership tainted with the Panama leaks scandal.

Talking to the media after the Supreme Court hearing in Islamabad on Friday being observed as the World anti Corruption Day, he said it would have been much better if the Supreme Court judges had not gone on winter vacations and completed the hearing of the most important case of public interest.

However, he said, the JI would continue to chase the corrupt and the rulers and recover every penny of the looted money from them.

The JI chief said it was a tradition in the democratic and civilized countries that any ruler or government functionary facing allegations of moral or financial corruption would step down.

However, he said, that unfortunately, there was no such tradition in this country.

Sirajul Haq said that the JI had filed petition in the Supreme Court on 24th of August last and had hoped that the matter would be decided by the end of the current year.

He said all the political parties wanted a judicial commission to probe in to the Panama leaks issue but the ruling part was worried due to the Opposition’s ToRs.

He said if the commission had been set up at the beginning, so much time of the nation would not have been wasted.

Referring to the government notification about the appointment of the next Chief Justice, Sirajul Haq there seemed to be a motive behind issuing the notification two weeks ahead of the event and it seemed the government was not comfortable with the present Chief Justice.

To a question, he said, the PTI and the PML(N) had a right to present their viewpoint regarding the formation of the enquiry commission but the JI also wanted justice from the apex court.
