In occupied Kashmir, the journalists from Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region called for a thorough investigation into the threatening calls received by the staff of English daily, Greater Kashmi.

District Journalist Association, Poonch, through its General Secretary Ishrat Butt demanded an in depth probe into the threats to Greater Kashmir. “Threatening calls to Greater Kashmir’s Jammu office is a serious issue as attempts are being made to crush the voice of journalism. The authorities should be serious about the issue,” he added.

Similarly, Press Club Rajouri in a statement said, “Threatening calls made to Greater Kashmir’s Jammu office are an assault on the fourth pillar of democracy.”

“We demand that police should probe the case and the accused should be put behind bars at the earliest,” by Press Club President Avinash Jasyal said, adding that several other incidents of assault on journalists have taken place in the territory in the past and the authorities need to seriously look into the issue.

It is worth mentioning here that the Indian authorities have already imposed banned on government advertisements to the newspaper and its sister organization, Kashmir Uzma, for publishing stories and pictures about Indian atrocities on innocent people of occupied Kashmir.
