Joe Root tops ICC Test batsman rankings

Joe Root has become the batsman in the International Cricket Council (ICC) world ranking after helping England beat Australia to regain Ashes.

The 24-year-old hit 130 in the first inning at Trent Bridge as the host won by an inning and 78 runs in the 4th Ashes Test.

Root has scored 443 runs at an average of 71.79 so far in the series with two centuries and two half-centuries.

Root is the  sixth player of the country since 1980 to achieve this milestone.
