LONDON: Harry Potter author J.K Rowling has announced that a new chapter in her Harry Potter books narrating the story of Harry’s pre-Hogwarts years is set to arrive in the form of a stage play next year.
Called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it will tell the “untold part” of the boy wizard’s story, including the story of the lives of his murdered parents.
Writing on Twitter, Rowling said: “To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – why isn’t Cursed Child a new novel? I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”
According to British media, the piece will be written by established TV screenwriter Jack Thorne and directed by Tony Award-winner John Tiffany, the play will also feature Rowling on the credits as co-producer.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End in the summer of 2016.
I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the #CursedChild will be opening in London next year.
