JIT team reaches Machh to investigate Saulat Mirza’s confessions

MACHH:  Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) constituted for Saulat Mirza have reached Machh to investigate his confessions in an video which was aired on local TV channels just hours before his execution on March 18.

The JIT team have arrived in Machh in supervision of  Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ameer Shiekh.

In start of April the government had announced the JIT.

The JIT comprised of officials from Military Intelligence (MI), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Investigation Police.

The probe team will present a report to the interior ministry within seven working days.

Hours before his scheduled execution on March 19, Mirza hurled serious allegations at his former party and its chief Altaf Hussain in the confession video.

He said MQM’s senior leader Babar Ghauri passed on to him Altaf Hussain’s orders of assassinating KESC chief Shahid Hamid. Mirza also claimed that the party uses Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad’s influence to protect MQM’s criminal workers.

Saulat Mirza, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court on May 24, 1999, for killing the then managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, Shahid Hamid, and his driver and a guard on July 5, 1997, in Karachi.
