JIT formed to hold probe into Attock incident

ISLAMABAD: A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising representatives of military intelligence, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), police and special branch has been established by the federal government to investigate Attock incident.

Interior Minister formed a JIT to hold probe into Attock incident where Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada was martyred alongside 19 other people including senior police officer and his relatives.

The team would make geo-fencing of the area and also collect data of mobile phone calls in circle of 100 metres away from the incident’s site and later it would present final report to the interior minister Chaudhry Nisar.

According to initial report, JIT collected evidences from the incident’s site and DNA samples of two suspected suicide bombers. The case was filed in the counter terrorism department in Rawalpindi under Sector 16 of Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) over complaint of SHO Rangu police station. The report stated that terrorists had not used ball bearing and nut bolts with the explosive hazards in the attack. The team stated in the report that three outlawed outfits are expected to be involved in the horrific incident while BDS claimed that the roof collapse occurred more casualties than the explosion.

Whereas, the initial investigation report was presented to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif regarding Attock blast. CM Punjab said that Pakistan suffered major loss after death of Shuja Khanzada who sacrificed his life for a significant cause. He vowed to bring terrorists and their facilitators to the justice. CM Shahbaz chaired a high-level session in Attock to review situation created after suicide attack on the slain home minister.
