KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engineer Haifz Naeem-ur-Rehman welcomed the Sindh High Court (SHC)’s historic decision to close liquor shops across the Sindh province and vowed to get wines shops close across the country.

Addressing an emergent press conference on Thursday at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI leader paid a rich tribute to the Chief Justice SHC Sajjad Ali Shah. Engineer Naeem said that a minor clan within Muslims were taking advantage of a law, based on a misconception that wine is a part of religious obligation for minorities.

He specially thanked the minorities wing of JI, who he said played a vital role in campaign against liquor shops across the province. He said that some influential elements in ruling class were enjoying wine in the name of minorities.

He expressed his deep satisfaction over the court ruling and added that JI would ensure implementation of the court orders in letter and spirit. He made it clear that the JI does not want to take law into hands but warned that sale of wine would never be tolerated.

Engineer Naeem said that he knew that those influential who are affected of the verdict would make some failed attempts to get the decision undo. He added that the JI’s minority wing representatives have already filed a case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The JI leader was of the view that who ever legislates and decides against the ruling of Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (SAW), he also violates the constitution  of Pakistan as the constitution made it clear that no law can be made against the spirit of Islam.
