LAHORE: Multan Road Traders Alliance and the Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday staged a rally at Multan Chungi to protest against the suspension of work on the Orange Line train project and called upon the government to complete the project at the earliest.
The JI Information Secretary Ameerul Azeem, in a joint charter of demand on the occasion, called for a timetable for the completion of the project, sprinkling of water of the road sides thrice a day, construction of carpeted roads for the residents of Multan Road besides posting of traffic wardens in the area.
He announced that if these demands were not met, the trader and the public would be forced to lay a siege around the Chief Minister House.
The JI Information Secretary pointed out that the previous government had prepared a plan for underground train in the area at the cost of Rs. 165 billion which would have saved the businesses and houses worth billions. However, he said that the commission mafia had ruined the life of the Lahorites.
He said the entire Lahore had been turned into deep ditches. He said the rulers had secured huge foreign loans for these projects and the public would have to repay these loans.
He said the citizens of Lahore were suffering from numerous diseases as the project was being delayed.
He said the rulers were interested in their commissions and were least bothered about the hardships of the people affected by the non completion of the project on time.
Ameerul Azeem said that in the developed countries, the government always took necessary measures for the safety of the life and property of the people before taking up any major project but that was not done in this case.
