KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Amir Engr. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that JI and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have largely agreed on seat adjustment, while negotiations are under way with other political and religio-political parties, as well as local notables for the remaining slots.
Engr. Naeem has expressed these views on Wednesday after submitting his nomination papers. He will be contesting elections from union council 18 North Nazimabad Town.
Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader demanded of the government to extend the last date for submission of nomination papers.
He further said that the JI had also submitted an application before the election commission to extend the last date for at least two more days. He was of the view that a large number of inspiring candidates have not yet submitted their papers as the form in this regard is quiet complicated.
The JI leader said that they are willing to bring back the lost glory of Karachi to the city as once again transform the megalopolis into a city of lights as it was earlier regarded.
He was of the view that free and fair local government (LG) elections are the only way to resolve the miseries of Karachities. He vowed that the JI would serve Karachi with honesty, dignity and transparency.
He stresses the need for holding a peaceful, independent and transparent elections and demanded of the government to take solid steps to ensure fool proof security as well as environment in which people can vote as per their aspirations.
JI Karachi deputy chief Muslim Pervez also submitted his papers for UC 30 Yaseenabad, other JI leaders Younus Barai, Engr. Sabir Ahmed Farooq Nematullah Abdul Jamil, Munem Zafar and Abdul Rasheed also submitted their papers on Wednesday.
