Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Engineer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddique on Wednesday agreed to pace up the measures for rain emergency in the metropolis.

Engr. Naeem and Siddique exchanged their views and respective plans to tackle any emergency in the city as monsoon season has commenced.

The JI delegation briefed the city administrative head on the disaster management cell, established by the JI Karachi chapter.

JI Karachi has converted all its district offices into rain emergency centers, where JI’s volunteers would be available to facilitate people and arrangements would also be available for evacuation of vulnerable populace, if needed.

Naeem offered the city administration with the JI’s overwhelming support in terms of volunteers, infrastructure and all other available resources.

He said that JI is not only a major political party of the city but also is real stake holder of the city. He said that JI has always contributed for the betterment and progress of the city and the megalopolis’ past is evident on it. He also vowed that JI would continue its services for the city.

The JI leader said that the metrological office had predicted heavy rains but unfortunately proper measures of much needed level have not been taken yet to neutralize any emergency. He stressed the need to uplift the mechanism for cleanliness of rain drains and irrigation of stagnant water.

Siddiqui hailed the role of JI’s ground activities for the service of Karachities. He assured the JI delegation that measures would be taken on war footing bases to cop up any untoward situation and a rain emergency has already been declared in the city.

Later while talking to media, he said that discontinuity of local bodies’ elections is the root cause of city’s miseries. He held Pakistan People Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement for the current deteriorating civic facilities as they enjoyed a rule of more than a decade but badly failed to deliver due to lack of political will.

He also criticized the power supply system and those responsible for the uninterrupted supply of electricity in the city.

It is seemed that citizens of Karachi are deliberately irked as entire city fell in dark last night when it was raining lightly, he added.
