KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has commend the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for its decision to fine a local news channel for airing obscene content.
In a statement on Thursday, the JI, Karachi chief said that there should be a proper check and balance system to monitor the content, airing on TV channels.
He said that there should be no concession for the TV channels who air content that violates our religious, cultural and moral norms and values.
Naeem further said that complaints have been emerged and blunders have been pointed out but unfortunately no proper action was taken against channels in past.
He was of the view that TV channels themselves should devise a mechanism of self check on the content that airs so as no such incident would occur and a positive image of media could be emerged.
Naeem said that unfortunately indecent content and obscenity have become a matter of routine for news and entertainment channels. He added that advertisements, dramas and stage shows contain obscene scenes and content that should be halted by the authorities.
He also pointed out that the role of newspapers is also no different from TV channels in this regard.
