KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has decided to pace up its campaign for early solution of Karachi’s civic issues.

JI Karachi chief Engineer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has that the party has prepared a Rs 500 billion package for the city and demanded of the government to release funds in this regard.

Addressing a crowded press briefing, following a meeting of more than 50 elected local bodies representatives associated with JI, he said that the city has been suffering since long.

He strictly criticized the local government led by Muttahida Qaumi Movement and alleged that Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar was crying over powers but was doing nothing on practical grounds.

He was of the view that the mayor should deliver in the city with the help of over employed MQM workers in local bodies institutions instead of political point scoring.

The JI leader said that JI’s Nematullah Khan had delivered to citizens despite all issues. He talked about several useful projects initiated during the Khan’s tenure and later abandoned by successive LG government of MQM’s mayor.

The JI leader told media men that local bodies representatives associated with JI have been working on self help basis in their respective areas. He praised the role of JI’s public aid committees for mitigating the miseries of Karachiites.

He pressed the city mayor to discharge his duties in letter and spirit instead of only issuing political statements. He also raised questions over announcement of 90,000 jobs in Sindh and expressed his disbelief in regard to adopting a crystal clear procedure based on merit in this regard.
