KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur- Rehman has said that the K-Electric and so-called political parties, who had been supporting the entity for more than a decade were equally responsible for the overbilling, power outages, financial losses and other hardships, being faced by Karachities.
In a statement on Tuesday, he demanded of the government to arrest those violated the agreement of the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and now K-Electric’s privatization and bring them to full justice.
Criticizing the prolonged power outages and over billing, he said that the privatization of the KE has favored only the investors, while residents of Karachi only bear agonies and problems, instead of any relief.
He said that the K-E badly failed in provision of uninterrupted power supply to people, which was the primary condition of the entity’s privatization. He further said that the KE also remain reluctant in investing into the power supply system, which is also a sheer violation of the agreement.
The JI leader demanded of those in the corridors of power to ensure immediate withdrawal of the recent unjust raise of 30 percent in the KE’s tariff. He said that the JI has been pursuing the case of masses and would remain continue to do so.
