JI demands to retrieve national wealth from Swiss banks

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the country’s wealth lying in Swiss Banks and direct the government to adopt suitable strategy to retrieve the public money.

Addressing the newly elected members of the local bodies belonging to the JI at Munda, in Dir, he suggested that more than 200 billion dollars owned by Pakistanis lying in Swiss Banks be brought to the country and all IMF and World Bank loans be cleared from that and the remaining amount be diverted to public welfare projects. He further said that the names of all the Pakistani accounts holders in Swiss Banks be made public to enable the nation know the people who had been plundering the national wealth during the last 68 years. He said that according to the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’ statement in the National Assembly,  in addition to the above mentioned amount, huge sums of Black Money were also lying in Swiss Banks.

Sirajul Haq said that before inviting foreign investors to the country, the rulers should think of bringing back the national wealth abroad as this would help create job opportunities and improve the lot of the masses.

The JI chief said that all those holding public offices would have to account for not only the deaths caused by the heat but also of the deaths of cattle.  He said that just as spending public money on public good was a great virtue, similarly, wasting public wealth on personal luxuries was a great sin and would invite divine wrath.

Sirajul Haq said that by adopting Islam’s strict accountability system, the country could get rid of the recurring calamities and crises. He directed the Nazims, Naib Nazims and Councilors winning on JI ticket to dedicate themselves for public service. He said that their electoral victory was a happy sign and would send a message of hope and confidence to the JI workers all over the country.
